Denture adhesives are materials used to aid in sitting of dentures inside the mouth. They come in pad, strips, cream or paste, powder , wafer and woven cloth like material.
Why do we need denture adhesives?
Due to loss of teeth our bone shrinks with time. Although a perfect set of denture is made, it will not fit so well with time as the bone remodels. Denture adhesive comes into play as it sticks the denture to the gums to prevent slippage, wobbling, food impaction, enhance speech and function.

There are various ways to remove denture adhesives depending on its form.
Wafer, woven cloth and strip type are easily removed by peeling them off.
For powder,cream or paste type, you can
- Buy denture adhesive removers and followed their manufacturer’s instructions.
- Use cold water and handsoap to wash the denture surface. Sometimes a soft denture brush would help as well.
- Use warm or hot water may help in certain cases.
It is important to try all sorts of denture adhesive until you find the one that best suits you. A crucial fact is that you must also know how to remove them well to maintain your oral health.
